regenerative design labs & land stewardship

nomad.labs is the experimental branch of Nomad Studio, dedicated to advancing regenerative design in landscape architecture and promoting sustainable land stewardship. It provides a hands-on space for exploring innovative practices that restore ecosystems and create self-healing landscapes. Central to this mission is the study of soil health, a cornerstone of regenerative design, which we approach through a combination of landscape interventions and soil microbiology research. By testing various regenerative techniques in real-world settings, we aim to understand how design and ecology can work together to create adaptable, sustainable environments that support biodiversity and long-term ecosystem health.

Our experimental landscape, Malayerba, tests different regenerative management practices on a small scale. The lab’s headquarters are located in an aged corral, where the principles of repurposing, restoration, and recycling guide its transformation into a greenhouse for native edible species, a workshop for creative experimentation, and an edible garden for hands-on learning. Through this combination of research, experimentation, and practical application, nomad.labs bridges the gap between theory and practice, contributing to Nomad Studio’s broader effort to inspire regenerative land stewardship practices that foster a healthier planet.
